Day 3,4,5,6,7,8

So I'm little behind on my blog. Last week turned out to be a challenge for me. We'll do a quick day by day recap.

Wednesday - had a really great workout actually. 30 minutes (just over a mile) on the elliptical followed by 15 minute walk on the treadmill at a 3 degree incline for a mile. Now here's where I started to slip. I was feeling that high right after exercising and it kept it going when I got home. I cleaned and organized my apartment and even gave the dog a bath but then I decided I could treat myself to a glass of wine...well that turned into 3 and needless to say I was a little groggy the next morning.

Thursday - Didn't start off great....Got called into the AED's office and found out that I didn't get a promotion I had recently applied for....this was for my dream job. I knew it was a long shot because I don't have a full season under my belt but I thought my past experience would make up for it. I was truly disappointed. Thursday night ended with a meeting where I didn't get home to 8:30 and led to me having some more wine. Yes I know....bad bad bad.

Friday - took a day off from everything. no drinking and no working out. i was ready to get up saturday and start it off strong.

Saturday - Woke up feeling great and refreshed. I tackled a 2 mile run today and I did pretty well. It was about 50 degrees when I went out and my body wasn't used to running in weather that cold. The run took me just under 25 minutes. Not too bad and I did run about 90% of it.

Sunday - Did another 2 mile walk/run today with the pup. This was mostly a walk but did get some good intervals in between chloe peeing and sniffing stuff :)

Monday - Legs are actually feeling sore today (which I love). Just did a mile walk to take it easy. Also got my weight training in as well.

Headed to tally tomorrow for the night. I'm really hoping to squeeze in a workout because I know I'm getting back late on Wednesday.

My goal is to try 3 miles this weekend. My biggest challenge right now is endurance. My legs don't feel tired....I just cramp up and feel short on air. Also, I find that I get bored running and if I can walk almost as fast as I run....what's the point??

I had recently applied for a promotion at work and found out on Thursday that I did not get it.

Day 2

Well I woke up with pretty sore legs....luckily I had a day of rest planned with just some strength training (mostly core and arms). I did okay with eating for the day. Banana for breakfast. Lean Cuisine for lunch. Fun size baby ruth. Apple for an afternoon snack. Then of course I had the dreaded night meeting. I ordered healthy....wraps from publix and I probably ate half of one with turkey. Downfall was I also bought publix chocolate chip cookies (my weakness) and ate two. Then came home and ate maybe 1/4 cup of pistachios.

I forgot to mention in my first post that 2 other challenges for me are reducing my wine intake and trying to take the stairs over the elevator at my new condo. Even though I only live on the third floor, the elevator is so tempting. With the exception of going to and from work (because I'm wearing heels and have look like the bag lady with all my bags), I will always take the stairs and I've actually done pretty good so far. Minor problem is Chloe (my dog) has come to like the elevator and will sit her little butt down in front of it until we ride it. I've resorted to carrying her when she gets stubborn like that. I'm not going to let her laziness ruin my motivation. As for the wine, I haven't had any for two days. My goal is not to drink during the week but allow myself to have some on the weekends because we all know that if you try to cut something out entirely, you'll want it that much more and end up binging on it.

Back to my day 2 of training. This is why my problem starts with working out consistently. These silly little meetings that prevent me from getting home until 8:30-9:00 at night and I have at least 2 a week. So needless to say, last night's meeting went really late and I got home at 9 and had no interest in weight training. That is now being added to tonight's workout. I have to overcome this and quickly otherwise I'm just using this excuse as a means to not exercise and it's all about NO EXCUSES (and yes I am stealing that from the Biggest Loser)

Today is suppose to rain but have no fear I am prepared to run on the treadmill if that's what it takes. One of my friends gave me some good advice to build up endurance until I get my mileage up on my runs. She said that if I run a mile, jump immediately onto an elliptical or bike and do another mile (or match whatever you ran) of high energy cardio. This is what I'm trying tonight so we'll see how it goes. I thought it was pretty good advice though.

That's all for now. Onward to Day 3!

Training Day 1

Well today makes the first day of training. Yay! I started with a one-mile brisk walk in the morning which I took my dog on but she was being so stubborn, I had to carry her half of the way! After work, I went straight to a one-mile run. Even though I hadn't worked out in a couple months, I was determined to run it all and see how I felt. I surprised myself and ran the whole thing....at a nice slow pace :) I finished in just under 12 minutes. After that I grabbed the pup and went for another one-mile walk and then ended the day with some yoga. I know the key will be stretching and not hurting myself in the beginning.

I'm also really starting to watch what I eat and cut out all the not so good for me food. I think I did pretty good today. Had a banana and yogurt for breakfast. Grilled cheese, potato salad (oops) and 2 Andes mints. For dinner I had scrambled eggs with spinach and some cheese. And I had one brownie left so I couldn't resist :)

One of my biggest struggles over the course of this 7 weeks will be making the time to train. With all the nights I work and getting home late makes it a challenge but no excuses....I will do this! My boss has this quote in his office and it's going to be my motto for this challenge.

"Excuses are tools of incompetence which create monuments of nothingness-those who specialize in them are seldom good in anything."
